Cuisine French
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- ¾ cup warm milk 110°F/45°C
- 3 large eggs room temperature
- ½ cup unsalted butter softened
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 egg for egg wash
In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. Add sugar, eggs, and half of the flour. Mix until combined.
Add remaining flour and salt. Knead the dough until smooth, then incorporate the softened butter gradually. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until elastic. Cover and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
Gently punch down the dough and knead in the chocolate chips evenly. Divide the dough into three equal parts.
Roll each portion into long strands and braid them together. Transfer to a lined baking sheet, cover lightly, and allow to rise again for 30-45 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the brioche with egg wash and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Let it cool before slicing and serving.
Additional Tips:
- Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for better dough consistency.
- If the dough is too sticky, lightly flour your hands instead of adding more flour.
- Store leftover brioche in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
