Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¾ cup warm milk 110°F/45°C
  • 3 large eggs room temperature
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 egg for egg wash

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. Add sugar, eggs, and half of the flour. Mix until combined.
  • Add remaining flour and salt. Knead the dough until smooth, then incorporate the softened butter gradually. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until elastic. Cover and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  • Gently punch down the dough and knead in the chocolate chips evenly. Divide the dough into three equal parts.
  • Roll each portion into long strands and braid them together. Transfer to a lined baking sheet, cover lightly, and allow to rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the brioche with egg wash and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Let it cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

Additional Tips:

  • Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for better dough consistency.
  • If the dough is too sticky, lightly flour your hands instead of adding more flour.
  • Store leftover brioche in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
